Essendon win Division 1 premiership

April 12, 2021

After a great season, finishing on top of the ladder, the firsts couldn’t maintain the momentum in the final series losing 9-6 in the second playoff match to lose the series 2-0.

Once again, we let Essendon get away to a lead and despite battling hard we were never able to bridge the gap and put some real pressure on Essendon to perform.
Despite losing, there are a lot of positives to come out of the year. We fielded the youngest team in the competition and showed the competition that Waverley is back!
We were out hit by Essendon 15 to 11, but the big difference was that Essendon was able to bring their runners home, while we left a lot of runners stranded.
Mitch Homfrey, Reece Longstaff, Jordy Let and Oscar Hargreaves each picked up 2 hits, including a 4th dig home run to Jordy.
Jamie Pap, Kynan Jones and Luke Pap pitched 4, 2 and 2 innings respectively.
And so we look to Winter ball and then the next Summer season. We have 5 players heading off to the US in October for college and wish them well. We certainly hope to see them back at Waverley when they return to Australia.
Don’t forget the Presentation Dinner at Mulgrave Country Club on April 10.  Tickets can be purchased via this link.
In other news, the board will be doing some strategic planning over winter to set in place some goals and objectives for the future.
