Seconds go Back-to-Back

Our Seconds defeated Geelong 11-2 in their Grand Final on March 15.

We had Geelong under pressure from the outset, leading 5-0 after the second innings.

Adam Bright and Jamie Papanicolaou dominated the Geelong hitters, allowing 8 scattered hits and two runs across 7 innings while we racked up 17 hits (spread across 11 hitters) and 11 runs with disciplined hitting advancing and scoring runners in scoring position. Ned Hargreaves and Jacob Sheldon-Collins led the hitting picking up three hits each.

The team was well supported by the Waverley family, with our supporters outnumbering the home team’s supporters.

Premier League 1 Firsts

Congratulations also to Sunshine, who won the PL1 premiership, defeating Williamstown 2-0.

Earlier Finals Wrap-Up

• The SL90 State team triumphed over Moorabbin with an 8-2 win.

• The SL90 Metro team also defeated Moorabbin in a thrilling walk-off 7-6 victory.

• Our LL Major team was beaten by Upwey in a tight 2-4 loss. Who could forget the team’s dramatic walk-off win in extra innings last weekend to make the grand final?

• Waverley Red fought valiantly, losing 4-7 to Mulgrave in the Regional East grand final. Unfortunately, our usual starting pitcher, Chris ‘Powza’, was unable to play after breaking his foot the previous week, but the team fought back to give Mulgrave a fright at the end of the game.

• Our Thirds put up a great fight but were unfortunately run down at the end of the game. Looking at the two teams, I see a massive upside for Waverley in the future, with the majority of our players under 20 years old.

• The Seconds team played and won their preliminary final in an exhilarating walk-off win on Saturday.

• The Firsts team lost to Sunshine 4-6 on Saturday in a game we could have won.  It was a similar story in the following games against Williamstown ultimately losing 8-12 in the 11th innings.
